How to fix Trae reporting Model Not Found or an unknown model

Trae does not auto-fetch the relay catalog. Custom models can only use Model IDs you type in Add Model. The ID must match the AI Code With docs exactly; a typo, a missing character, or a display name yields Model Not Found.

Start with these checks

The requested Model ID does not match a model AI Code With offers, or it was mistyped in Add Model.

  • The request reports Model Not Found or unknown model, or the custom model cannot be called.
  • The Model ID in Add Model was typed by hand, has extra spaces, or used the display name instead of the ID
  • Open Add Model and confirm you are editing the custom model you added

Understand how Trae uses the Model ID

The name in Add Model can be anything, but the Model ID must be a real AI Code With ID such as deepseek-v4-flash or claude-sonnet-5, not a display name. Trae sends that ID unchanged.

If the new model is missing from chat, Add Model was probably not saved, or Auto is still on. Confirm the custom-model entry exists and turn Auto off.

Re-add the exact ID from the integration page

Copy the target ID from the model list on this page and paste it into Add Model. Do not type from memory, and do not add a provider prefix.

Also confirm the protocol is right. A Claude ID on OpenAI Chat Completions, or a GPT ID on Anthropic Messages, can also look like a missing model or a parse failure.

Check access and select the model

If the ID is correct but the error remains, confirm on the AI Code With docs and pricing page that the model is currently available and your key can access it. Some models are plan-gated.

After saving, turn off Auto and pick that custom model before sending. When replies look normal, match the model name in usage records.

Trae does not sync the AI Code With catalog automatically. Each new model requires another Add Model step.
