How to fix IntelliJ IDEA config not applying and requests missing AI Code With

If messages are not going through the AI Code With endpoint, the IDEA process usually cannot see ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL and ANTHROPIC_AUTH_TOKEN. Check both and restart the IDE to confirm traffic hits AI Code With.

Start with these checks

The IDEA process did not read the custom environment variables, so requests are not going through AI Code With.

  • Messages do not go through AI Code With, or the official endpoint still fails.
  • The variables were exported only in one shell, so GUI-launched IDEA cannot see them
  • Confirm in a terminal that ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL starts with https://api.aicodewith.ai

Confirm the variables reach the IDEA process

The plugin reads the local Claude Code CLI config. Exporting in one terminal window is not enough; IDEA started from the GUI often misses those variables.

Check the address and restart

Confirm ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL starts with https://api.aicodewith.ai, and launch IDEA from a terminal that already has the environment. After changes, fully quit and reopen.

Verify in usage records

Send a message, then match it by time in AI Code With usage records. Seeing the call means the request actually went through the AI Code With endpoint.
