Reduce AI detection: rewrite AI text so it reads human

Run a local de-AI-flavor rewrite skill in Claude Code: score the original, rewrite it paragraph by paragraph, and cut stock phrases. Scoring and rewrite scripts run on your machine. It scores again at the end so you can compare.

  • ✓A typical AI-sounding short piece finished detect → rewrite → retest in 87 seconds (clean-environment run on 2026-10-15)
  • ✓Under the skill’s own rules, the composite score dropped from 42 to 3 (out of 100) and the completeness check passed. This is a re-run; it is not the same metric as the style-feature 20→3 in the blog post
  • ✓That score is the skill’s local rule score, not the result of any AI-detection product

Set up once: point the global config at AICodeWith

Do this once; every use case reuses it. Other tools: integration guides. Where to get a key: Get an API key.

  1. 1. Install Claude Code

    Follow the official Claude Code install docs. You are done when claude --version prints a version number.

  2. 2. Create a key and edit the global config

    Sign in, open the dashboard **Key Management** page, and create a key. If you are not sure where that is, see Get an API key.

    Open the global config ~/.claude/settings.json and set the Base URL and key under env:

    ~/.claude/settings.json
    {
      "env": {
        "ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL": "https://api.aicodewith.ai",
        "ANTHROPIC_AUTH_TOKEN": "sk-YOUR_KEY"
      }
    }

    Do not add /v1 at the end of the Base URL. Reopen the terminal, run claude, and a normal reply means the connection works.
  3. 3. Install the humanize-ai-text skill

    Download the skill zip from SkillHub and unzip it into Claude Code’s skills directory:

    bash
    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills/humanize-ai-text
    curl -L -o /tmp/humanize-ai-text.zip "https://api.skillhub.cn/api/v1/download?slug=humanize-ai-text"
    unzip -o /tmp/humanize-ai-text.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/humanize-ai-text

    You are done when SKILL.md appears. The detect and rewrite scripts need Python 3 locally.

Tested steps

  1. 1. Score, rewrite, and retest in one prompt

    Save the article as a text file, run claude in the same folder, and type:

    text
    Use the humanize-ai-text skill to de-AI ./original-ai-tone.txt: run detection and write a report, rewrite it into natural English, save as ./rewritten.txt, then detect again, compare the scores, and write the comparison to ./comparison.md. Do not add facts or details that were not in the original.

    Keep the order “detect, rewrite, retest” so you can see what was flagged as AI-sounding and compare after the rewrite.
  2. 2. Check the rewrite sentence by sentence

    To sound specific, the rewrite may invent details that were not in the original. Before you send it, compare against the source: are new details true, were numbers or conclusions added, were proper nouns changed?

Troubleshooting

The rewrite changed the meaning
Ask it to rerun the completeness check, or say “keep every claim from the original.”
The rewrite added content that was not in the original
Add “do not add facts or details that were not in the original” and ask it to list new sentences in the comparison report.
401 or request failed
Check that the key is complete and the Base URL is https://api.aicodewith.ai (no /v1). Reopen the terminal after you change it.

FAQ

Will the rewrite pass AI detectors?

No guarantee. The on-page score is the skill’s own rules, not any detector’s result. Treat it as a list of places that read like AI.

Is the article uploaded somewhere else?

Scoring and rewrite-rule scripts run locally. The rewrite step is done by Claude Code through the API you configured.

Can I use this on academic papers?

Yes, but say it is a paper and keep a formal register, or it may become too conversational.
